On the eve of the 1968 French student movement, twin siblings Isabella (Eva Green) and Leo (Louis Gabriel) became good friends with American student Matthew (Michael Pitt) because of their movies. When the siblings brought Ma Xiu to their home as a guest, Ma Xiu was loved by their parents, who were both university professors, and moved into their home. Gradually, he fell in love with Isabella.
After the start of the student movement, the university was suspended, and three young people were idle in their rooms playing games about movie directors and dialogue. During the game, Isabella learned that Matthew was interested in her and joined forces with Leo to demand that Matthew have sex with her. From then on, as their parents went on vacation, the three of them began to live like an Eden. Matthew gradually discovered that Isabella and Leo had an illicit relationship, and their relationship began to undergo subtle changes. However, the student movement that was raging outside seemed unrelated to them.
