Synopsis of Shutter Island
The film is based on the novel of the same name by American novelist Dennis Lehane. In 1954, federal police officer Teddy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his partner Chuck (Mark Ruffalo) arrive by boat to investigate a mysterious disappearance at the Detention Island Prison for the Insane near Boston. Rachel (Emily Mortimer is acted the role of), a female prisoner who murders her own flesh and blood, mysteriously escapes from the heavily guarded prison and hides in the depths of the island. Teddy suspects that the prison’s chief psychiatrist, John Cowley (Ben Kingsley), is hiding something, and reveals to Chuck that his real purpose on the island is to find the custodian who set fire to his wife, Dolores (Michelle Williams), And expose the crime of the US government using mentally ill prisoners for human science experiments. But as the investigation goes deeper and deeper, the truth becomes more and more confusing…
