Synopsis of the Public Enemy
The film is based on true events. In 1933, gangster John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) and his accomplice John Hamilton (Jason Clark) successfully rescued members of a robbery gang from an Indiana prison in an armed robbery. They include Floyd “Pretty Boy” (Channing Tatum), Nelson “Baby Face” (Stephen Granham), and hide in the farm house of Martin (John Michael Bolger), a corrupt cop. Martin convinced Dillinger to hide out in Chicago and seek mob protection. During a series of bank robberies, Dillinger falls in love with Billie Frequette (Marion Cotillard), a Chicago clerk. Meanwhile, FBI agent Mervyn Purves (Christian Bale), promoted by his boss Director Hoover (Billy Crudup), vows to bring Dillinger to justice in America’s first “war on crime.” During the operation, as Dillinger fell, the FBI grew stronger…
