A small house nestled deep in the woods, located in a corner of Takozo-ji New Town in Japan. It was built by the architect Shuichi Tsubata after a wooden house proudly built by his teacher Anthony Raymond. Throughout the year, the scenery is myriad, and hundreds of kinds of vegetables and fruits planted in the garden have become delicacies through the skillful hands of his wife Yingzi. Cooking, tailoring, farming, nothing can beat her. Their home is full of thoughtfulness and care, which confirms the famous saying of architect Kobe Yi, “The house should be the treasure box of life.”
Shuichi Tsubata, who was the chief architect of the Japan Housing Corporation, proposed the concept of preserving the forest for the wind in the 1960s, hoping that new construction projects could begin to coexist with nature, but it was not adopted by the policy of economic development at that time, and it became a collection of lifeless housing. So he started from himself, not only gave up his busy work, but also bought land in the residential area, built a house and planted trees. After half a century, the diligence and elegance of the two couples have indeed planted countless treasures for this pure land.
