Ana ï s Ning (played by Maria de Medeiros), wife of banker Hugo (played by Richard E. Grant), is a graceful but obsessed D H. The wild woman of Lawrence’s writing. Through her husband’s introduction, Anais met the decadent and rough looking novelist Henry Miller (played by Fred Ward). She fell in love with the wise man in front of her and was then attracted to Henry’s wife Joan (played by Uma Thurman).

At Joan’s request, Anais began to take care of Henry’s life, running around for his novel “Tropic of Cancer” and deriving wild and passionate pleasures from it

This film was nominated for Best Screenplay at the 1991 Academy Awards.
