Synopsis of Avatar
Jack Sully (Sam Worthington), a paraplegic ex-marine wounded in battle, decides to travel to Pandora for his dead brother to manipulate the creation of Dr. Grace (Sigourney Weaver) by combining human genes with those of the native Na ‘vi tribe “Avatar” hybrid. Jack’s goal is to infiltrate the Na ‘vi tribe and diplomatically persuade them to voluntarily leave their ancestral homes so that SecFor can clear the area of virgin forest and exploit the expensive “inaccessible” mines below. In the process of exploring Pandora, Jack meets Nadiri (Zoe Saldana), the princess of the Na ‘vi tribe, and learns from her the survival skills of the Na ‘vi people and their attitude towards nature. Meanwhile, Colonel Miles (Stephen Lang), SecFor’s manager and military representative, is losing patience and decides to use force to drive out the Na ‘vi.
Shot in 3D, the film cost $500 million to produce and distribute, making it the most expensive production in film history. The film won three Academy Awards at the 82nd Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best art direction.
