The plot introduction of Atonement
In the summer of 1935, Briony (Sioriz Ronan), a 13-year-old girl from a well-off English family, is just beginning to try her hand at writing and has a vivid imagination. One day, she discovers that her servant’s son, Robbie Turner (James McEvoy), is having an affair with her sister Cecilia (Kate Knightley), and discovers that he has written her an erotic love letter. Briony’s vivid imagination dreamed up all sorts of terrible things. When her cousin Lola is raped, Briony is pretty sure she saw Robbie do it, a testimony that landed Robbie in jail and left Cecilia heartbroken.
The Second World War broke out, and both Robbie and Cecilia were released from prison to fight for their homeland, and Briony gave up to study at Cambridge to become an army medic. No one could understand what she was doing, only she knew that she was carrying a huge secret and remorse. She summoned up her courage to solve the mystery, to be truly atoned for and forgiven. However, things changed in a way that Briony did not expect.
