Synopsis of the Great Gatsby
In the spring of 1922, writer Nick (Tobey Maguire) leaves his hometown with high hopes to join the gold rush to New York City, a new city where jazz is popular, stocks are soaring, but the rich and poor are polarized, and people are indulging in money. In order to pursue the American dream, Nick gives up writing and enters the stock market, and moves to the bay near New York to live, and becomes the neighbor of the mysterious rich Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). Across the bay live Nick’s cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her aristocratic husband Tom (Joel Edgerton). Nick is not only invited to dinner, but later Tom takes him to find his mistress for fun, and Nick gradually loses himself in this charming, And in a world of illusion, love and lies compiled by the rich.
But Gatsby is the only one who makes Nick feel hopeful in this lost city. Nick is invited to attend the feast in Gatsby’s mansion, and also discovers the secret in Gatsby’s heart, it turns out that he has been deeply in love with Daisy, even if she did not wait for him to return after the war and marry the rich Tom, Gatsby has been convinced that their love will never change.
