In 1929, Vietnam was a French colony, and a 15-year-old French girl (played by Jean March) was studying at Saigon Girls’ Boarding School. She goes home every holiday, and her mother runs a very small school with very little income. She has two brothers, the elder brother Bill is addicted to drugs and domineering, and the younger brother Paul is naturally weak and often bullied by her elder brother.
One day, the girl bid farewell to her mother as usual and boarded a ferry back to school. On the boat, she met a wealthy Chinese young man (played by Tony Leung Ka fai) who was riding in a black sedan. He was the only son of a wealthy overseas Chinese. The Chinese man liked this white girl and went to strike up a conversation, and the two of them got along. The girl in the boarding school knew that some girls were engaged in prostitution outside, and she also wanted to try finding a wealthy man, so she took the initiative to talk to the man. upper
The two of them strolled around Saigon and even went to restaurants to eat Chinese food together. The man drove her back to school. The next day after school, the black car was waiting at the school gate. The two quickly fell in love. The man took the girl to his mansion, which is a common place for wealthy Chinese people to hide their beauty in their golden houses. They meet, bathe, and play here. Sometimes she doesn’t go back to school at night, so the school has to notify her mother. However
